ecopeak

ecopeak is a startup I co-founded with Vinzenz Pfeiffer and Eugenio Lupi. Funded by the city of Berlin, we developed a mobile phone app to bring electricity demand flexibility to German households. Responding to an abundance or lack of renewable energy generation with increased or decreased consumption, respectively, has an enormous potential for positive environmental impact and cost savings.

To this end, the ecopeak app shows users a real-time CO₂ score for electricity consumption, forecast scores and displays a time series of electricity generation by generation type. It notifies users when an adjustment of electricity use is particularly effective and informs about many topics related to our energy infrastructure.

I was and continue to be solely responsible for the technical design and implementation of the cross-platform Flutter app and Node.js server infrastructure as well as large parts of the data processing and visual design. I assisted with fundraising, public relations and sales.

As a startup we unfortunately could not establish a product-market-fit and after months of fruitless back-and-forth with various stakeholders in the German energy sector we decided to drop our plans for commercializing ecopeak. Regardless, I continue to maintain and improve the ecopeak app in my spare time. Please feel free to give it a try, it is freely available for Android and iOS.
